liz - how about a toy shop or even better a candy store!!! Love everything you do! Jamie told me about your new career move. Good job Paul and i are very proud of you!!! love you, liz
Kerri - The Amway is always beautiful. They change their lobby decor up often, and during the holidays, I bet it’s gorgeous in there. They have so many different lobby areas, each with a different feel. The lobbies are totally open for photography too.
A fun and quirky location would be when Rosa Park Circle is an ice rink! You could do some really fun daytime shoots and during the night when it’s dark, I bet all of the lights are pretty awesome for photos. Added bonus: if there was some snow falling that night too! Oooh!
trek - Find a local yarn shop – the huge assortment of colors of the yarn will be awesome for backgrounds and very cheerful!!!
Justin - The Grand Rapids Public Library: the building is very nice inside and out.
The Childrens Museum: Great for Family Photos
Fredrick Miejer Garden: WOW!
The Grand Rapids Public Museum: They have a old carousel, the “old streets” of Grand Rapids, plus all the countless exibits
Keri - Grand Valley’s downtown campus (the DeVos Center, in particular) has some interesting architectural elements which might be interesting. Their library might be neat if you have a particularly bookish individual (and if GVSU allowed flash photography in their library!).
The Grand Rapids Civic Theatre has neat architecture too. I’ve done a photo shoot there for work.
Mom - Well, there are so many fabulous old homes in GR, maybe sessions could be held in some of them…remember that day we were there and did the tour of homes? The Frank Lloyd Wright house was so great, the gardens outside were nice too, but the inside had so many nice areas, I really loved that house. Then there were all those other mansions…do people live in them all? Maybe there might be some that are vacant and have caretakers. Some may be furnished with fabulous antiques…wouldn’t those be great for sessions…if available. Talking about antiques…is the photo above taken in Gilbert at the antique shop during the city Centennial on July 3rd this year???
How about that restaurant we had lunch at, it was near the bridge I think, all brick inside and out..kinda cool in there for photos. I am susre those gardens that we were going to go to would be really nice still this Fall. Do they have any inside areas that you could use for sessions near all those beautiful flowers and greenery? Old churches in the area might be an idea. In an art museum. During the tulip festival in Holland that would be a great place.
Well thats enough for now…sorry, I sure got on a roll…lol !!!
MrsSteak - how about the lobby area of the JW Marriott? It’s beautiful in there and much more “updated” then the Amway. I LOVE trendy.
wendy - oh krissy… your work is absolutely breathtaking! I can’t believe how you have developed as a truly gifted photographer! your shots are creative, fun-filled and sentimental. jenna and I love to look at what you’ve been working on. congrats on all you’ve accomplished- we are so proud to call you family. hi to jamie. w.
Heather - What about one of the downtown bars like Taps or Ghiradello’s (I am not sure of the correct spelling on that one). The Van Andel Museum, DeVos Hall, Wealthy Theater or the Voight House would be great locations.
Beth - ICCF’s new location in the renovated DA Blodgett building – 920 Cherry – they have beautiful windows!
Literary Life Bookstore (it’s a renovated old bank)
Robinette’s – there are plenty of fun, indoor spots
Art of the Table – the wall of wine would make a great backdrop
A school bus
Wealthy Theatre
Mangiamo’s
The kids’ play area at either Woodland (breakfast food) or Rivertown Crossings (tree house stuff)
Keep in mind, I don’t know how feasible all of these are. For example, someone else suggested Meijer Gardens but I know for a fact you have to pay $$ to take pictures there unless your event (wedding, etc.) is also being held there.
Kristi - I love the yarn store idea!
A few other indoor ideas:
-furniture store (Stone Throws has beautiful old hardwood floors with trendy furniture)
-skywalks downtown
-skywalk by Calvin College
Tracey - How about San Chez? Lots of cool tile and architectural features. Jersey Junction in EGR is a fun spot. Build a Bear workshop in Rivertown Crossings mall…
Regina White - Okay so there is this bakery shoppe on Fulton that has nostalgic cookie jars and goodies all over the place. It’s colorful and fun. I want pictures of Ethan when he turns 1 there. When he’s walking. Wanna take his pictures there for me? He turns the big 1 in Feb when it’s still cold and snowy out. Great indoor photos. Great natural lighting with there big windows.
EGR Children’s section of the library.
christina - This is a tough one! I’ve been meaning to respond with some creative ideas but nothing comes to mind that really blows me away that is quirky:
I do love the engagement pictures I’ve seen where they are sitting in a coffee shop
There is a 50′s style diner in Zeeland called “Frank’s” I think that is really bright and I’m picturing a couple sitting at the counter together sharing a milkshake. I know there are other 50′s style diners around.
I thought of the library idea too but was worried about if they would let you do that..
Oh yeah, and what about the merry go round at the museum or even at the mall??
blog - Wow guys! These are some great ideas! I’m excited for some cold weather indoor shooting! I’ll be announcing the winners of the contest soon – keep the ideas coming! :) -Kristen
