Hi friends and blog readers!  Do you have plans this Friday?   Well, you do now!  ;)

You may remember a few weeks ago I wrote a post that lightly touched on some sad news about my friend’s husband Drew, who passed away unexpectedly.  Danielle is a good friend of mine, recently my editor here at K. Holly Photography, and before that we worked together in the same office.  I feel very blessed to have her in my life; I wrote a little about her and her husband here.  They are both such incredible people, with a passion for literature, art, politics, and truth.  They’ve opened my eyes to so many things and showed me that there is so much more in this world than most people ever care to learn about or embrace.  They have two beautiful daughters, and have been together since middle school.  They were one person, two pieces to one heart, one soul.  She truly lost her best friend in the world.  And my heart absolutely aches for her.

Jamie and I knew right away we wanted to do something.  Something big, something meaningful, something to celebrate what a great person Drew was, and what a legacy he’s leaving. In the past few weeks, I’ve been working with Drew’s friends and co-workers from The Rapidian, UICA, CMC, and the Wealthy Theatre on a fundraiser for Danielle and their daughters.

Drew believed in community, free speech and literature. He had strong convictions, and would rather write the truth for free than allow himself or his writing be influenced by those holding the paycheck. He did a lot of volunteer/pro bono writing, and was on committees for getting things with the Rapidian moving.  I remember Danielle talking about Drew one afternoon, a little exasperated by him sticking to his guns.  With a smile, a little sparkle in her eye, and her hands up in the air, she said,  ”I think it’s amazing what he’s doing, I mean, it’s why I fell in love with him. I love him for it, I do!  But, you know, we still have bills to pay!”

So let’s do something, let’s help her out.  She’s been facing a lot of expenses, hurdles, and walls just trying to get life back to some sort of normal.  On Friday November 20th, at 7:30 p.m., Community Media Center will host a special event called Storeytown: A Memorial Benefit for the Family of Drew Storey, at Wealthy Theatre. This evening will showcase some of Drew’s film and written work, as well as a celebration of the things he loved and silent auction.  I’ve donated a few things to the auction, including a collection of art prints and a certificate for a photography session. The event is technically free, but the suggested donation at the door is $8.  If you are unable to make it, you can make a donation, here.  Every little bit helps!

Hope to see you on Friday!
